Appearance
The base color of the forewings is ash-black. The inner and outer deep black lines are irregularly dentate and externally partially brown-edged. The subterminal line is light brown, irregular, and marked at costa with white.
The hindwings are white in the basal half, except along the inner margin, which like the outer half is blackish with white terminal spots running out into the fringe.
Habitat
Catephia alchymista can be found in openings, deciduous forests, etc.
Food plant
The larva is monophagous on Fagaceae (Quercus) and feeds on the leaves.
